Azalea Lodge

Gatehouse to Picton Castle, Pembrokeshire, Wales

about the property

This Pembrokeshire holiday cottage is an historic castle lodge, and is a perfect base for exploring Pembrokeshire in West Wales. The perfect holiday cottage for those who love somewhere quirky and romantic with history!

Azalea lodge is a romantic 'castellated' lodgehouse at Picton Castle in Pembrokeshire, the perfect getaway for all historians and wild-life buffs alike. It provides you with the freedom of the estate.

This little gem is the perfect retreat for couples and small families, you will benifit from a temporary garden pass to the award winning gardens and a free guided tour of the castle. There are more than 40 acres of spectacular woodlands and gardens to roam or just simply sit and enjoy the bird song.

If you dont feel like cooking just walk round to the Courtyard Cafe (it really is one of the best in the county), where you can arrange delicious home made dishes to take home with you.

When the public have all gone home, you will be able to roam freely around the peaceful acres of spendid woodland and indulge youself in the fantasy that you are a wealthy landowner of days gone by! The lodge is one of a pair on what was originally the main gates but which are not used by visitors to the castle (you'll likely find you're the only people using these gates). The building is set back from a quiet road (not the main road). Check out our Facebook album for more images

Lovely Lodge, great garden and generally a lovely stay as always.

We had a fantastic weekend staying in the Azalea lodge at Picton Castle. The accommodation was perfect for our small family break. We arrived at the lodge at 8pm on a cold Friday night to find it spotless and warm. The heating set to timer for a cosy arrival. We walked through the castle grounds on Saturday morning and were greeted by a festive Christmas market. We planned to revisit the grounds but the weather was a little difficult with a toddler. We took advantage of other local attractions during our stay With loads to do within a 20 minute drive, Folly Farm being our favourite. We are already planning a return stay as we enjoyed it so much and the accommodation was second to none. The Jenkins family

Azalea Lodge provided us with the perfect break. The accommodation is clean and well equipped and the setting is absolutely fabulous. The castle and grounds are delightful and having access to them was a privilege. We will definitely return to see the grounds in all their glory in the spring.

We had a wonderful and enjoyable stay at the lodge. It was perfect for our needs and very peaceful. The lodge was furnished well and the gardens and castle tour at Picton Castle are definitely worth a visit. Will be recommending to our family and friends and hope to be back sometime in the future!

We had a very pleasant stay and thoroughly enjoyed using the grounds with our dog. The gardens and grounds are spectacular, and we found the restaurant food excellent. The location provides an excellent base for touring Pembrokeshire.

We had a comfortable and enjoyable stay at Azalea Lodge. The gardens are simply wonderful and it was an excellent time of year to enjoy the flowering of rhododendrons, azaleas, magnolias and camellias. These were offset by carpets of bluebells, primroses, wild garlic amongst many other woodland plants. We found the complimentary tour of the castle most interesting and Maria's cafe very welcoming with delicious refreshments. It is a good location for many attractions in the area.

What did I like about Azalea Lodge? It was spotlessly clean, smelt beautiful, was cosy and was well appointed. Very good size kitchen with quality fittings and crockery. Comfy beds had white covers and there were white fluffy towels in the bathroom. Plenty of hot water, a good size dining table and there was even a washing machine! The lounge was adequate in size but the easy chairs were rather size and comfort challenging! So, the accomodation was delightful, but the park and castle were more than a match! I love the grounds, at any time of the year and of course, Maria's was a fantastic bonus. Picton castle lodges will always be a favourite of mine.

We had a really enjoyable stay at Azalea Lodge. The accommodation was perfect, cosy and comfortable with everything there we needed. Picton Castle didn't disappoint and the gardens are really beautiful. There is so much to do in the area that I am sure we will make a return visit, sooner rather than later I hope. I can certainly recommend a visit.

Excellent accomodation, the inclusion of the free tour of Picton Castle and access to the grounds was a pleasent surprise. The Friday night Tapas in the Castle restaraunt was also very good and highly reccommended (Worth booking ahead).

This is a fantastic location. The castle and grounds are lovely. I would thoroughly recommend it. We also visited Broad Haven South Beach, which is lovely and you can walk from here to Stackpole. Barafundle Bay is also gorgeous.
