Caban Cwtch

Cenarth (waterfalls), rural West Wales

about the property

A wonderful 1970s holiday cabin with original and restored retro mid-century interior and a great budget price holiday cottage too! Access to swimming pool and wifi, or enjoy the views through the trees to the fields.

Our cabins are named No 1 in The Guardian travel section's list of Top 5 UK Log Cabins! Caban Cwtch is a Scandinavian style woodland cabin in the heart of the beautiful West Wales countryside at Cenarth. Architect designed in 1973, and renovated with retro and designer furnishings, the cabin is a simple, fun place to stay. It is nestled in the trees at Penlan woodland holiday village in Cenarth, a quiet, quality holiday village of privately-owned cabins carefully arranged into small 'cul de sacs' in the woodland. Cwtch is the largest of our three cabins and has a private rear balcony with the best views of the three cabins. Free use of communal heated outdoor pool in the summer. Extra snaps here or guest photos.

in detail

The cabin is insulated and entirely lined in pine, has wall heaters in every room, is partly-double glazed (thermally efficient units), and comprises of:

Decking/Patio: Decking area with seating and table. Note there are cute squirrels who try and sneak into the cabin when you aren't looking! Views. You aren't overlooked on this covered veranda.

Lounge: Leather sofa for two/three, further designer armchairs, pebble fire, views out over the fields, and a TV and DVD player. CD stereo.

Dining Room with further designer pieces and artworks we have made for the cabin.

Kitchen: The compact galley kitchen is adequate for holiday use and there are plenty of options to eat out locally if you wish.

The fridge and cooker are full size. A few nice retro touches like the 'bullet' bin and groovy tableware.

Laundry facilities available on site as well as iron etc (small surcharge but surprisingly reasonable).

Master Bedroom: Small but so cosy! Pine clad walls and a double bed you won't want to get out of. All bedlinen in the cabin is 100% cotton. Lovely views over open fields. Steam iron.

Note there is little room for a travel cot in the double bedroom, but you would fit a small moses basket in, or put a travel cot in the bunk room (within earshot).

Bunk bedroom: Bunk room that isn't large but kids seem to love all the same.

Toilet & Shower Room: Smallish room that does exactly what it says on the tin. It has one of those heaters that blasts you with hot air when you get out of the shower.

What to do at Caban Cwtch?

Chill out and enjoy the location.

Go for a walk through the Forestry Commission woodland.

Drive to the coast (7 miles to Cardigan) and see the dolphins and seals.

Walk down to the famous Nag's Head pub and enjoy a good meal sitting in the riverside beer-garden.

Visit the local Caws Cenarth cheese farm and see why it has won so many awards, and why Prince Charles is a regular customer!

Learn how to fish on the Teifi - one of the UK's best salmon rivers. We can provide a guide, or just visit the locat salmon smokery to buy some delicious smoked salmon or trout! During spawning season you can watch the salmon leaping up the falls. You will be able to fish between April 1st through to October 7th as the Teifi Trout Association allows floating, spinning, worming and fly-fishing on the majority of its 24 miles of river banks.

This property has a generous midday check-out time on day of departure.

* note that wi-fi is available on site at the club-house (100 meters away)

What an amazing place to stay. The cabin is quirky (any neighbours popping in were a bit jealous), warm and homely. The site itself is the first place we have been able to let our 6 year old roam around with the other children.... lots of late nights with new friends, a fabulous park and an outdoor pool that was just heated enough to be eble to bare the great Welsh summer weather (that said we also swam in the sea until we couldn't feel our hands or feet, so do you trust us?!). The owners are delightful (we had chocolate and cakes waiting for us on arrival). The bunk room was a hit with a perfect den hideout at the bottom and a spying place at the top. Wonderful time had by all. We hope to be back soon! Oh and spotted LOADS of dolphins on a day at the beach!

A lovely get-away to rest and clear our heads. The cottage was very comfortable and felt so much bigger than it looks. The great weather and the peaceful terrace must have helped with this. The area is beautiful at this time of year and we had a glorious day on Penbryn beach. The whole holiday village was a positive surprise and the great playground was much appreciated by our three-year old.

A great base in a lovely part of Wales - we've stayed in the cabin a couple of times, and it doesn't disappoint - snug, stylish, great fun!

Lovely comfortable cabin in a lovely part of Wales. Warm duvets; electric blankets and great heating throughout. Not so good being Englishmen on the wrong side of the Rugby World Cup though...
