Rhiwson Uchaf + hot tub!

about the property

Historic Welsh longhouse family holiday cottage perfect for exploring Cardigan Bay and Ceredigion. Hot tub included, and sleeping 6 with plenty of space for everyone in this traditional Welsh holiday farmhouse.

'Rhiwson is an historic longhouse in the Teifi valley, west Wales. The Grade II-listed house has a thatch and tin roof, a four-poster bed, a garden with a millpond and an orchard. There are no roads in sight and guests have free access to 180 acres of pasture.' The Guardian, selecting it as the best location for a family Christmas.

An historic Welsh longhouse (c.1710) with wonderful views across the Teifi valley and 180 acres of pasture over which you have free access. Great for two couples/ family groups as it splits internally into two wings. The ancient thatched roof has been preserved under a protective layer of tin since the 1920s, and Rhiwson is now Grade II* Listed for its historic interest. Inside has recently been modernised in a comfortable modern farmhouse style. No roads in sight or earshot, and although the property manager lives in the converted stabling across the farmyard your windows virtually all face the other way across open fields. See larger photos of this Welsh longhouse or an aerial photo. Independent 5* review.

customer reviews for Rhiwson Uchaf + hot tub!

We had a lovely stay at Rhiwson Uchaf. The house itself is gorgeous, beautifully restored, full of character, warm and cosy. Lots of books, DVDs and toys to keep everyone entertained and the hot tub was an extra special treat. A great base from which to explore the stunning West Wales Coast.

Really enjoyed our short stay Rhiwson Uchaf. The seemingly small building opens up tardis like into a multi levelled beautiful building. The dining area is very comfortable with ample room for entertaining. For those with children, there is a good selection of toys and games available to keep them entertained. For those with pets, the garden seems pretty secure and safe. This is so far our favourite place of the properties we have visited on UTT.

Just spent a fantastic week here. Our 12th UTT and our favourite to date! Really lovely cottage with everything we needed. We took mountain bikes and rode trails at Brechfa Forest followed by time relaxing in the hot tub. Our cocker spaniel loved the enclosed garden - he spent hours running around. A really great place to spend a week - we feel totally relaxed.

Our week at Rhiwson Uchaf was absolutely fantastic, upon arrival we were greeted by the friendly and helpful owners, we then proceeded to have a peaceful and idyllic stay in the Welsh countryside, exploring the beautiful coastline, hidden beaches and great places to eat. Our cottage was our base and haven throughout our trip, and it was perfect, we particularly enjoyed holing up in the snug of an evening with a movie after a dip in the hot tub. Thanks for a wonderful holiday.

Friendly hosts, splendid cottage, great to have an enclosed garden for the dogs, and to be able to walk them on the owner's farmland.

This was our second visit to Rhiwson Uchaf and we're so pleased we chose to come back. Such a peaceful spot, not far from Lampeter. A great place to unwind and relax. Our little dog had the time of his life running up and down the huge enclosed garden after countless tennis balls (you'll probably find a few we left behind!). The cottage is spacious, warm, beautifully decorated and perfectly secluded. Despite the April showers, the hot tub was put to good use - so brilliant at night with the coloured lights on! We had a marvellous time and will be back for sure. Thank you.

We had a lovely time at this very well equipped cottage. The hot tub made all the difference. Lovely clean comfortable bed linen and furnishings. Hope to return in the near future. A wonderful retreat to get away from it all.

A lovely setting, and warm welcome from Eleri. The traditional (And ancient) Welsh long house was beautiful and fascinating (that beautful ceiling!), but with all modern comforts and very comfy beds - Plus more space than we could possibly need! The hot tub was a welcome soother after a day walking, or on the beach. Diolch! :)

This was the perfect getaway for a relaxing break. Eleri was so welcoming and was on hand if we needed her. The farmhouse was spotless and decorated to a high standard and the hot tub was the perfect addition. Lots of lovely walks in the area and close to many lovely places for a day trip. I would recommend this to anyone.

We loved our stay at Rhiwson Uchaf - it was everything we expected and more. The Rayburn was a particular hit with all of us and of course the Jacuzzi!!. Thank you for being so welcoming and relaxed. It put us at ease straight away. We thoroughly enjoyed our walk around Aberaeron and the Dolphin spotting at New Quay. Also the biking in Brechfa Forest. It felt like a home from home (if our homes were this awesome!) We leave rejuvenated although somewhat hungover. Lovely cottage and the hot tub is a thoughtful addition. Gorgeous part of the world to explore and lots to do and see or simply sit on the beach and unwind as I did on Mwnt beach where you can see dolphins if you're lucky!

"5 months since our last visit and just as good as we remembered. Brought our son this time. Visited Lampeter, Poppit sands, New Quay and enjoyed a walk at Hafod near Devil's Bridge. Fantastic bacon baps at little cafe opposite Devil Bridge Station after 2 hr walk. Weather fantastic - going home with a sun-tan! Hubby enjoyed cooking on the Rayburn and walking up the hill each morning kept me and son fit!" ~ Phil, Allyson, Stephen and Duffy the dog. stayed March

"It has been a long trip from our home in Germany but worth every kilometre for this wonderfully renovated and welcoming cottage. Every day we awoke with that wonderful feeling of peace and freedom. We hope to come back again" ~ Martina, Eugin and family from Spindel, Germany

"What a fabulous place! We don't want to go home. We have been very lucky with the glorious sunshine and have enjoyed exploring the little towns and beautiful beaches -Three Cliffs Bay on the Gower and Poppit sands just west of Cardigan are highly recommended!. This is our fourth stay with Under The Thatch and I cannot find any other agent that beats the properties. After a stressful few months at work this has been the perfect retreat- feel very content and relaxed 'UTT' our little secret!" ~ Sarah, Tony and Kira - stayed April
