Priced for 4, sleeps 7. 17th-century Coaching Inn in West Wales with original features, modern comforts, and a 3-acre field—ideal for coastal escapes.
Maenllwyd is a Grade II listed former tavern on a quiet road not far outside the Carmarthenshire village of Meidrim in West Wales. It's a great choice for a family break in the Carmarthenshire hills, and particularly good if you've got a dog as there's an enclosed 3-acre field for them to exercise in.
The chief delight here is the beautifully restored interior, impeccably handled by local owners Jo and Steve. Steve has been a consultant for and worked on dozens of Landmark Trust and National Trust restorations in Wales, but the revival of this pub (back into a house) has been a labour of love.
You're only 10 minutes from St Clears town, or 25 minutes to Pendine sands, 30 to Llansteffan. As St Clears is on the main arterial route into Pembrokeshire you can easily choose between days out in Tenby, Saundersfoot, Pembroke etc. or stay in Carmarthenshire for the Botanic Gardens, Laugharne, Aberglasney house and gardens, or a choice of beaches.
