about the property

Tan y Gader - Georgian townhouse in Dolgellau, Eryri / Snowdonia National Park

Tan y Gader ('Below Cader [Idris]') is likely the most handsome of the many Georgian townhouses in historic Dolgellau, in the Eryi/ Snowdonia National Park. It sleeps 12 in comfort over 6 bedrooms with 5 bathrooms, 6 toilets.

Dolgellau is the cultural heart of North Wales, and here you'll find the greatest concentration of Listed buildings in the country (more than 200 - essentially the entire mountain town) in the shadow of mighty Cader Idris. We're delighted to be sole agents for this house that was one of the first buildings in Wales to be Listed, back in 1952.

The house built in c1790 has recently undergone a considerable renovation, and provides a large, very comfortable family home that has ample bedrooms and bathrooms for a group of up to 12.

The beauty of this house is not having to worry about taxis home if enjoying a drink, or having to cook for the family as you're in the heart of the town with cafes, restaurants and pubs just at the end of your street, on famous Eldon Square. Days out will take you up the most beautiful mountains in Wales, or to golden sands (Barmouth is 9 miles, 20 minutes away).

customer reviews for *NEW Tan y Gader

Tan y Cader is such a beautiful house right in the heart of Dolgellau. It is so well equipped with everything you might need. All the bedrooms comfortable & plenty of living space for a large group. There were 12 of us & we never once felt like we needed more space. We had such a fantastic time & are already looking when we can go back.

Tan y Gader provided a wonderful space for our Easter family gathering. beautifully decorated throughout with generous accomodation for relaxing and plenty of space for a large group. Although it is in the heart of the village the area is peaceful and quiet and the town of dollgellau charming. A hike up cader Idris which is within a short distance of the town rounded off a lovely few days.

A really beautiful house, done up wonderfully for a large number of people to live very comfortably. The town itself is great-packed with unspoiled houses and independent shops. The local walks were easily accessible and mountain walking would have been very much on the cards if it hadn't been for the weather. A very impressive holiday home.

Wow! This really is a stunning house. The bedrooms are huge and extremely comfortable. All the bathrooms, and there were many, were very luxurious. Clearly a lot of thought has gone into renovating this impressive house. We had an amazing weekend, Dolgellau is gorgeous and everyone we met was very friendly. We had beautiful walks along the estuary up Cader Idris and exploring the Dysynni valley. Can't wait to come back.

We had a lovely, relaxing stay at Tan y Gader, such a beautifully restored house, very comfortable with lots of interesting paintings and books. You can sense the great history of the house. The garden is a peaceful retreat with herbs growing by the kitchen door. Dolgellau is a perfect spot with plenty of independent shops including a great bakery. Beaches and mountains are close by. A perfect place to retreat and unwind; we really enjoyed our stay. Thank you very much.

Our party of three generations stayed at Tan y Gader. This spacious property has good living accommodation, large bedrooms and excellent bathroom facilities which proved ideal for our mixed aged group. We really appreciated the excellent location of Tan y Gader - we were able to walk easily from the house for both shopping and hill and river walks.

- Helen E,

We were looking for a place to celebrate our anniversary, and this house was perfect. It was spacious and comfortable, with plenty of room for our family. The location was also ideal. It was beautifully restored, the kitchen was well-equipped, and the bedrooms were all very comfortable. We especially enjoyed being steps away from the shops and cafes of town. Dolgellau is a charming place and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing and memorable getaway in Snowdonia. - Imogen P.

What a fantastic holiday! Tan y Gader is a beautiful, tastefully decorated home. The kitchen had a wide range of pots and pans and everything else you need to make a home cooked meal. The beds were very comfortable and a lovely enclosed garden round the back (our tiny Jack Russell was unable to escape). The location is ideal to explore everything North Wales has to offer. The village of Dolgellau itself has ample shops, pubs and restaurants. We were able to fill our week with walks, zip lining, a ride on a steam train, exploring the mines, a trip to a retro cinema, and lots of walks, all around a half hour drive away or less. Excellent communication from Under the Thatch and the owner of Tan y Gader. Everything ran smoothly and we had a perfect week of making memories we will cherish. Thank you!
