Beudy Trehilyn will appeal to the design-conscious who love the coast, and must be one of the loveliest holiday cottages in Wales - a coastal retreat with easy direct access to great trails around the Trehilyn estate and the Pembrokeshire Coast footpath. Famously restored by conservationists Jo and Griff Rhys Jones, with the help of architect son George and artist daughter Catherine, this once shabby cownshed has had a complete overhaul and now sits in its own lovely garden. Immediately adjacent is a restored early Showman's Waggon (in a shed with huge glazed doors) that provides further accommodation if more than x3 stay - note this isn't let to others as an independent unit. Sustainability was at the heart of every decision in this long and complex conservation project that is managed exclusively by Under the Thatch, and today you'll find EV charging for electric cars, as well as nice touches like a kids swing and slide set down your track. Walk to the famous lighthouse on Ynys Meicl (2.5 miles) or hike out to Porthsychan cove (2 miles). Short walks take you the ruined cottage in the Trehilyn woods, or hike out to the dolphin and whale-watching station over the hill behind (2.5 miles). Beautiful Abermawr beach is 9 minutes (3 miles). Fly fishing for rainbow trout in two ponds available on site. Catch & release, arrange with estate manager after booking.

We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful Pembrokeshire cottage. The converted cowshed is full of character, with its lovely stone walls and slate flagstones, and made a perfect base for exploring this stunning corner of Wales. We particularly loved being able to walk straight from the door up to Garn Fawr and Garn Fechan, with spectacular views all around. One of the absolute highlights of our trip was spotting multiple seals in the bays around Strumble Head – a truly memorable sight. We were also delighted to find wild orchids and many other beautiful coastal flowers along the paths. For anyone exploring the area, we would highly recommend a visit to Abereiddy to see the Blue Lagoon and the dramatic slate cliffs. Traeth Llyfn beach is also well worth the effort at low tide. Access is via very steep metal steps (which our young dogs managed, if somewhat reluctantly!), but we were rewarded with a huge expanse of sand and had the beach completely to ourselves. A special mention and thank you to Shirley and Anthony, who were both incredibly helpful during our stay. Shirley, in particular, was always quick to respond and made sure any questions were dealt with promptly. Anthony was equally helpful and responded very quickly when we asked about a hosepipe for washing the dogs after their sandy beach adventures – a small thing that made a big difference and was much appreciated. For food and drink, The Sloop Inn at Porthgain was outstanding – excellent meals, drinks and cocktails, and in our opinion the best food in the area. Cove Café in Fishguard was another favourite for delicious brunches and cake stops. Thank you for a fantastic stay. We leave with wonderful memories and hope to return one day. We had a terrific week at Beudy Trehilyn, the explanations of how to get there, the description of the place were are all accurate. The house was beautifully furnished and presented, warm and comfortable. The programs on dvd explained a lot about the restoration of the farm buildings and surrounding land, which was fascinating - we learnt a lot about Pembrokeshire history! Thank you

We had a wonderful stay at Beudy Trehilyn. It’s an amazing space inside and out. Comfortable and relaxing, beautifully renovated and designed . A well equipped cottage. Nice bedlinen and Best towels ever ! Our Only negative comment would be it needs a deep clean into all the nooks and crannies, beams and bookshelves as a few cobwebs and dusty corners. Otherwise a wonderful place and great location from which to explore the local sights and glorious Pembrokshire coastline.

We had a wonderful stay at Beudy Trehilyn. The arrival instructions were great and made getting there and getting in very straight forward. The barn has been beautifully put together and we loved how cosy it all was. We got lucky with the weather over new year and enjoyed many walks along the coastal path and to local beaches. What a beautiful area to explore. Thanks for having us, we hope to be back!

Such a special place to stay. What an inspirational renovation of this old building. Comfy beds and good quality bed linen. Huge sofas to lounge on and I was so appreciative of the antique welsh furniture. Wonderful rich curtains from Melin Tregwynt. The shower is like a relaxing rain therapy. An abundance of apples and pears to pluck straight from the trees and our walk along the stream every morning was a pure delight. I'll be back.

We loved our stay in this beautifully restored cottage. It was extremely comfortable and catered for all our needs. This was our first visit to this part of Wales and it was stunning, especially the views from the coastal path. We have a family member who is a wheelchair user and we’ve already recommended the cottage. We will definitely return, possibly to the same cottage or one of the others.

We loved this cottage. Really appreciated the care and skill with which it’s been converted and furnished- love the materials used with focus on celebrating local treasures. Very peaceful and set in the most beautiful landscape dotted with Neolithic wonders. We will definitely try and stay in a UTT place again in future.

Hi, accommodation and surrounding were stunning. We particularly liked the walk to the barn. We did this every day with our dogs. The only negative comment would be that the cowshed was a little tired. Overall though we had a lovely stay and wouldn't hesitate to stay in another UTT property.

Cottage is in a good location on a country lane close to Fishguard.The accommodation has all amenities needed and was well presented but a little dusty. Great walk set out around the farm to orientate ourselves then off to explore Fishguard which you can park outside of and then take a coast path walk to the lower harbour and have a crab sandwich lunch at harbour club. There is a good walk up to a nearby fort from the accommodation and circle back through fields. Another good spot is visit to nearby melin tregwynt cloth mill that has nice outdoor tables for lunch then a short drive along country lanes to a beautiful beach alone lane. Lots to do in area and a good base thoughtfully renovated.
