'Over the past decade everyone from designer Martin Brudnizki to writer Alain de Botton have escaped to Bryn Eglur to recharge their batteries...most rarely leave the site, instead choosing to laze around with the doors open listening to the birds' (Financial Times).
Featured in World of Interiors, Bryn Eglur is a remarkable traditional Welsh cottage dating from 1755, furnished with Welsh country antiques and set in 12 acres of peaceful Carmarthenshire countryside.
This is a genuinely rustic, historic cottage, not a modern luxury conversion. Its interiors are dark, atmospheric and antique-filled. The photographs show exactly what to expect. For those who love authentic old Welsh cottages, Bryn Eglur offers a rare and distinctive experience.
Fel welwyd yng nghylchgrawn 'World of Interiors', mae Bryn Eglur yn fwthyn Cymreig traddodiadol unigryw, a adeiladwyd ym 1755. Wedi'i leoli mewn 12 erw o gefn gwlad heddychlon Sir Gaerfyrddin, mae'n cynnig profiad gwirioneddol o gamu'n ôl mewn amser.

In Detail
No Wi-Fi or broadband internet, but we found a reasonable 4G signal in most of the house on the EE network (possibly also others).
Underfloor central heating to the ground floor, but note this is not a luxury property. You'd want appropriate clothing in winter.
Kitchen: Rayburn stove (solid fuel), initial basket of logs provided. Fridge-freezer, hob and electric oven. Microwave, toaster. Filter coffee machine for ground coffee and stove-top espresso maker. Doors to outside. Hot water is via oil boiler, not Rayburn.
Dining room: in the former parlour, with antique Welsh oak dresser, longcase clock etc.
Cegin Fawr: the main room of the house (literally the 'Great Kitchen'). Working inglenook with genuine Victorian cast-iron range. Welsh stick chairs, settles and an Ercol sofa and chair.
Bathroom: ground floor, off the Cegin Fawr, in the former small dairy, with small contemporary roll-top bath and heated towel rail.
Main bedroom: antique cast-iron double bed and other country antiques, lovely views. Electric radiator. Note the antique bed is 6 inches narrower than a modern double.
Second bedroom: double Welsh antique box-bed (sleeps 2). Note it is slightly shorter and narrower than a modern bed and therefore not suitable for, say, two tall adults. This room is entered only from the main bedroom.
Gardens: front and rear, and fields on all four sides are yours to explore. They're left fairly wild, not manicured.

A long-awaited dream stay, and it didn’t disappoint. This beautiful cottage transports you to a simpler, slower way of life. Incredible value for such a special place — I’ll definitely be returning.

Idyllic. I slowed down and I slept and I listened. Just what I needed as an artist to get on with ‘the work’.

Lle bendigedig i dreulio penwythnos tawel. Mae swyn y lle yn amlwg. Mwynheuon ni ddarllen wrth y tân a gwylio cwningod yn yr ardd - ym mis Ionawr!

Cosy, warm cottage that has been beautifully renovated to exemplify its original features whilst incorporating modern kitchen and bathroom facilities. The cottage is well situated for exploring the local area. We went to Laugharne, Pendine Sands and Cardigan Bay. Only criticism would be in regards to driving out into the main road - visibility is tricky.. could a mirror be added to support drivers? Thank you
