We have enjoyed our stay at Bwlch Newydd beyond our expectations. We came here to walk, and the walking is excellent, but there is so much more to commend this lovely place. The house is sensitively restored and retains much of its historic charm as well as providing all mod cons. The Aga makes the kitchen diner the heart of the house and is a pleasure to cook on. We are not used to Aga cooking but we read the notes and were impressed by how well it cooks everything! We are now Aga converts. The kitchen is also very well equipped. The surrounding landscape, flora and fauna is stunning. Nearby Llandeilo is a very attractive town with great independent shops galleries and eateries. It is very tranquil here - a landscape with more wildlife than people. The nearby Reservoir, Llyn Brianne is probably the best one we have visited in Wales, in tune with its surroundings and an impressive feat of engineering! The nearby RSPB reserve, Gwenffrwd-Dinas is one of the best we have been to, and we have been to a lot; beautiful setting by the river and an exciting scramble of a walk over rocks above the river, a boardwalk through marshland and a woodland full of nesting birds including pied fly catchers. The countryside is beautiful and full of astonishing wildlife at this time of year (mid May). The bird song at the house is prolific. Amongst others we have seen/heard various warblers, song thrushes, swallows up close, red kites, buzzards and (we think) a raven. Cuckoos have serenaded us every day throughout the day and on our last day we saw one in flight! And to our surprise a humming bird hawk moth on the valerian in the garden by the front door. National Trust Dyffryn House and Estate and the Dolauchothi Roman Gold mines and estate are close by and definitely worth a visit. There are two very good pubs nearby. We were lucky enough to see a kingfisher along the river Towy in front of the Towy Bridge Inn. In the UTT information about Bwlch Newydd it doesn’t do the house garden justice. It may look like there is only a bit of grass in front of the house but the garden extends to both sides and behind the house. And there is a lovely dilapidated but delightful vintage caravan and various corrugated sheds there which enrich the views towards the house when seen from the path on the other side of the Towy River. This is a dark skies location and it doesn’t disappoint. Great star gazing. There are numerous types of bats to be heard (with a bat detector) at dusk. A great place to stay. Thank you, Diolch, to Kate and Huw the owners, what a magical and beautiful home away from home you have created. Some of the most awe inspiring “destinations” are on the door step: Gwenffrwd-Dinas and Llyn Brianne, just minutes in a car. So much more to be discovered…. We will be back!! Brilliant co-op in Llandovery only just over 15 ish minutes away for supplies if needed. This is a haven in a landscape that is wild, un-touched and needs to be protected, firstly, for those that live there, secondly, for those that are lucky enough to visit: please visit the cadwcambria site to help stop the absolute blight on not only landscape, but, rare animal species and livelihoods.

Bwlch Newydd is a beautifully equipped and maintained cottage. It is very secluded albeit not far from the road. A beautifully maintained secure garden providing peace of mind for dog lovers! Our cabbie loved exploring! If you are looking for somewhere to completely switch off then this is the place. Zero signal other than that provided by WiFi in the cottage. Lovely countryside we explored the nearby nature reserve and walked a large part way round the Dam ! Spectacular views. The hosts had provided a welcome treat for us and the dog which was a lovely touch. Perfect place for a getaway from the hustle and bustle of life!

Just back from a relaxing week in Bwlch Newydd and what a beautiful cottage this is with everything we needed to make ourselves at home. The sympathetic restoration and period furniture makes it feel like you stepping back a century but the facilities certainly do not. We loved sitting in the cosy kitchen, as did our dog who made his home in front of the Aga. Thanks for a great week.

Fabulous cottage, in a perfect location with no other dwellings in sight. Stayed in November 2024 in the early snow and the cottage was toasty warm, with the best behaved wood burner I can remember.

This is a really wonderful cottage. Well equipped with everything you need for a cosy break. The walking straight from the front door is fantastic - and you can dry off by the wonderful aga on your return (my dog loved snoozing by the aga). Very helpful and responsive owner - will definitely be back

My friend and I had a short but wonderful time at Bwlch Newydd! It was easy to find thanks to the helpful arrival information, and we felt at home right away. Everything was clean, easy to use - the cottage was the perfect warm and cosy spot to return to after a day out walking. We made the most of the fortunate weather and fell in love with the stunning surroundings that begin right outside the front door. Thank you Kate and Huw!

The cottage is absolutely delightful, very thoughtfully and well equipped. Comfortable and stylish with high quality fixtures and fittings - the bathroom is especially good for a holiday cottage. We loved the aga as we have one at home. The garden is really pretty and the views are really super. Kate was very helpful to us too. We would definitely rebook.

This is a very good quality and well appointed cottage, decorated in a cosy and attractive style throughout. Sympathetic restoration meets twenty-first century comfort. The best thing about it is its setting, on a very quiet road overlooking a wooded valley. The garden was genuinely secure for our dogs. We were lucky with the weather and used the hammock. The nearby nature reserve is beautiful. Thanks for the goodies on arrival!
