Located high above the Dyfi valley between Aberdyfi and Machynlleth (about a 10-minute drive to either), Hafod Dyfi enjoys the perfect location for a beach and mountain break. Renovated from a ruin by George & Tomos architects (famous for their sustainable work), this hillside barn enjoys far-reaching views of Snowdonia.
Inside is simple but done with quality and integrity, reflected in works by Welsh designers Cefyn Burgess, Adra, and Melin Tregwynt. Stay here to enjoy the peace of Eryri/ Snowdonia, or the Wales Coast Path passes the gate.

We had a fantastic time at Hafod Dyfi - it is such a beautiful, quiet spot with only the sheep and hills for company. The cottage is beautifully designed, with gorgeous, comfortable beds and the best views. It’s got everything you need included and lots of thoughtful touches. You can walk straight out onto the Welsh Coastal Path or curl up with a book and the hills. Can’t recommend enough.

We would like to say what a beautiful cottage Hafod Dyfi is. We have stayed 3 times now and it is always immaculate and beautifully presented with all practical aspects covered. We love it because it is so peaceful and surrounded by beautiful countryside unspoilt by human hand; a wonderful place for nature. We were really sad to leave today. Thank you for providing a haven for us.

It was so much harder to leave this time! This was our second stay at Hafod Dyfi and once again it didn’t disappoint. The property itself is perfect with everything you could possibly need. The beds are very comfy, the bedding is beautiful and everywhere is spotless. It’s the outside that makes it for us. This time we brought along our own camp chairs and spent most of the time sat out to the front. The barn swallows are a delight to watch but we saw so much more. The amazing owl will appear out on the patio side at dusk and if you are up early enough, the owl will be at the end of the front field. Along with the buzzards, giant hare and pheasants you are never short of something to watch. The silence around the place fills your soul. If you want to switch off and enjoy the beauty of the cottage and surroundings this is the place for you. Aberdyfi is a very easy 15 min drive and the road to the cottage is really well maintained. We will no doubt be back again. Service from Under the Thatch was A+ again. Thank you so much.

We had such a great time at Hafod Dyfi, despite the inclement weather. Hail, strong winds and drizzle didn’t stop us from enjoying the cottage and surrounding area! There were plenty of walking routes straight from the door, and further afield by car (Cadair Idris via the Pony Path was a highlight). Machynlleth is a short drive away, and perfect for buying provisions, with an excellent bookshop too! The cottage had high quality furnishings, comfy beds, and good kitchen equipment, and a lovely (and very welcome) wood burner. Best of all was the absolute tranquillity we found – only the sound of sheep and birds, and not another person in sight – such a rare treat!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hafod Dyfi. Everything about it was wonderful...the location was stunning, with views of fields, trees and mountains from every window. Hafod Dyfi itself is a beautiful property inside and out. It is furnished and equipped to a high standard, with comfy beds, nice bathrooms and a very well equipped kitchen. It's also very cosy with good central heating as well as a log burner. We would definitely stay there again.

We had a fantastic break in this beautiful cottage. The peace and quiet was just what we needed. Watching bats dart around, listening to the tawny owl and venturing to the beach was all so wonderful. The accommodation felt so special. We really enjoyed the log burner, amazingly comfortable beds and it was great to have a bath too. A heavenly break - we will be back!

Completely faultless. Beautiful peaceful location surrounded by fields and sheep with nothing but bird song and the occasional baa to be heard. House was clean and very welcoming with great selection of CDs and dvds and books. Wood burner worked a treat. Handy location for visiting Mach, Aberdyfi and southern half of Eryri. Could not ask for more. Thank you.
