In Detail
There is no wifi, but we found our phones had some (limited) signal at one end of the house (tested on 02 and EE). Hafod is a truly special place - but note that it doesn’t have central heating and although it has an oil-fired Aga and two woodburners, it’d be a cottage only for the hardy in winter months.
Downstairs:
- Cegin Fawr: Large wood burner - note our photo of the inglenook was taken before a substantial woodburning stove was installed.
- Snug: Wood burner, DVD collection.
- Kitchen: Fridge-freezer, small gas stove, oil-fired AGA.
- Master Bedroom: King double bedroom showcasing the ‘walk-through’ concept that leads to the other bedrooms.
- Bedroom 2: Double bed.
- Bedroom 3: Small double bed.
- Bedroom 4: Two single beds.

Winter - this house doesn't have central heating and although it has an oil-fired Aga and two wood-burners it'd be a cottage only for the hardy in winter months. Guests may prefer to sleep in bedroom 2 in the colder months as it is directly above the kitchen which is constantly heated by the oil-fired Aga.
There is limited electricity available from the small solar and battery system but it cannot be relied on in Winter.
Privacy - Guests should note that a footpath runs through the garden but is seldom used, only by occasional hillwalkers or the local farmer and his tractor may drive through it.
Access - The last 500m of the approach to the house is by means of a rough track, it is perfectly navigable but requires with careful driving.
Privacy 2 - There are two staircases to the upper floor. One leads from the snug and accesses the landing with bathroom and bedrooms 3 and 4 off. The second staircase leads from the Cegin Fawr main living space on the ground floor and directly into the open main master bedroom above (with four poster bed). Note that to access Bedroom 2 (and the second bathroom) guests must use this staircase, thereby passing through the primary bedroom - there is no door between the staircase 2 and the large primary sleeping space.
Limited phone signal.

Will F,

We found the cottage was charming. It is in a very beautiful location and it was very well presented and appointed. The historic location made for some brilliant exploring and we were able to walk to the high hills from the house. All in all it was a really good weekend...

We had a great stay at Garth Gell. The host was very organised with useful information and everything was presented beautifully. The property is situated in vast farmland with amazing views and spectacular scenery. We loved the unique style of the interior and it felt very cosy and homely. The beds were so comfy with lovely Egyptian linen. It was so quiet and peaceful we could only hear sheep. Kathleen responded quickly to all the questions to ensure everything was perfect. Highly recommend.
