about the property

Priced for 2 staying, sleeps 2. Stylish shepherd's hut and Welsh cabin for the best glamping in Wales, near Llanfyllin

We're regularly offered glamping units to advertise, and we reject most as they're simply not comfortable enough - a holiday should of course be comfortable, relaxing, with privacy and great views. This hut and cabin combination has all those things, in spades.

Many people won't know this area of Powys well (between Welshpool and Oswestry), but as architectural historians that have traversed almost every road in the country by this point, we can promise you won't be disappointed. Here you'll find the 'old Wales' of unspoiled small villages and charming towns and immaculate landscapes. It is simply beautiful, and there are lots of great walking trails in the area, and from the door. The Llangollen canal trail is one of several that owners Sarah and Clive can recommend -  they live in the ancient oak-framed farmhouse up the track.

This really is one of the best quality, well-insulated hut/cabin combos that we've seen (and we see many!), and with great eco-credentials.

customer reviews for Cwch Bach

A wonderful return visit to Cwch Bach. Blessed with lovely weather by day and cold clear nights for enjoying the stars and to benefit from the stove in the hut. Glorious crisp mornings to take in the frost tinted views, whilst enjoying a cuppa on the terrace and watching the ducks busy about their business. Will never tire of the view and the landscape here. Always something to observe. An added bonus is the gorgeous simplicity and comfort of the hut and kitchen/bathroom. Everything is just right, everything you need and thoughtful extras.  Best of all for me, is knowing that it is and will have been dog / animal free in the hut and I know I don't have to worry that I might have to end up sleeping in the car because someone has snuck their hound into an animal free space (leaving me wheezing and unwell).  There are plenty of animal / pet friendly places to stay - so I'm delighted for me that Cwch Bach is perfect with a 'no dog policy'. Thank you, Will definitely be back again.    Jen And Simon   (Winchester)

What a lovely quiet place for a break. Set in a beautiful landscape, the shepherd's hut was cosy and had everything we needed. Lovely hosts, highly recommended.

What a magical place to rest and recharge the batteries. The cabin and hut are so cosy and beautifully decorated. Hours were spent watching the wildlife including the beautiful hare in the field below - such a magical animal. Recommend a trip to Lake Vyrnwy and to Llangollen. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay - Thank you   K & B Cheltenham

We spent a relaxing few days at Cwch Bach. The hut and cabin are well set up and in a beautiful location overlooking fields and the valley. Hours were spent watching the cows, ducks, birds and hares in the fields. A perfect place to recharge the batteries with lots to do in the local area. Highly recommend staying here.

What a great time we had at Cwch Bach. Despite the sometimes cold windy weather we were never cold in the warm and well laid out accommodation. The wood burner in the shepherds hut was easy to start and needed only to tick over to keep it very wary warm. The shower room was tops and the kitchen had everything you needed if you wanted make an evening meal. Best of all was the location, peace and tranquillity. A perfect place to explore the ever changing scenes in the valleys and hills. The wildlife was at hand too, the hare would keep us amused and the arrival of the swallows entertained us from the kitchen table. The neighbouring ducks were fun to watch and provided eggs for breakfast too. Though we travelled far on a couple of days, we found there was much to do locally and plenty to explore on foot. Llanfyllin was a good starting point for walks with a couple of cafes to keep you going. Thank you to Sarah and Clive for making a holiday just right. The honey was lovely and so too the other bits that were there to welcome us. Best wishes, Stephen and Gill

We adored our time at Cwch Bach. Sarah really thought of everything we could need - from olive oil to proper coffee! Both cabin and hut were immaculately clean, comfortable and cosy. We loved the home-made honey, welcome cakes and fresh duck eggs - what a treat! Go for the silence and the stars: at night all you can hear are owls calling to each other out of the darkness, and the rustle of wind through the leaves. We'd love to return!

I love EVERYTHING here; the hut - beautiful, the silence - exceptional, the moon and stars, the glowing sun, the marigolds shiny. The ducks, the cows, the cats, the wonderful acrobatic swallows. What a treat to be here, long may it all continue. Thank you so much for my wonderful stay. Anne N. Sept 2023

We just can’t keep away - our special place - we could just spend all the time here, watching the changing scenery and spotting the hares in the fields behind. Such a perfect place for exploring this beautiful part of the country. One thing that makes it so really special is the welcome we receive from our hosts. Thank you, Sarah and Clive, for all the little extras, a perfect treat. You will always receive a five-star review from us and I hope that we can leave another one sometime soon. Stue & Michelle

The perfect place for peace and tranquility, in this amazing shepherd's hut, with everything you could possibly need during your stay. So much to see and do in the local area, with the perfect hosts. Highly recommended for anyone wishing to explore the great outdoors, or just simply relax and experience pure calm.

Dear UTT readers, a must stay at Cwch Bach ! Just had the most lovely stay over Easter, Sarah is a wonderful host and it was really nice to stop and talk too. The shepherds hut is beautiful with luxury touches, and it was lovely to arrive to a warm stove. Slept so well, and when you wake in the mornings… you are treated to the most beautiful views. The garden landscaping around the hut and cabin is gorgeous and the alfresco time and fire pit were a joy. You will also be impressed with the kitchen and bathroom in the cabin, so well equipped and thought through. The princesses are the 4 ducks, who are the star turn.

We had a lovely stay at Cwch Bach. We had been looking for somewhere where there were no pressures on us to do anything apart from eat, drink and appreciate the surroundings. Cwch Bach did not let us down. The Shepherd’s Hut is absolutely lovely. Comfortable, comforting and relaxing. We made the most of the hut itself and the views from it are glorious. We were really lucky with the weather so able to sit out and watch our neighbours, the ducks, waddle around the surrounding fields. We saw a Kite flying over the neighbouring fields on one afternoon. It is an idyllic spot. We would highly recommend anyone to stay here, especially if they just want some time to recharge their batteries. Sweet treats were left by Sarah and Clive which were very much appreciated and a lovely surprise. And on the rainy afternoon we had we stayed warm and cosy in the hut and did a jigsaw, still able to appreciate the views. Thank you Sarah and Clive, Cwch Bach really is lovely. ~ Sarah and Alison

We booked Cwch Bach in the hope of finding comfort, peace and quiet and we were not disappointed! It was all of these and more. From the jugs of fresh flowers to the delicious complimentary cake, the charming ducks and sleep inducing crisp cotton bedding, everything about the experience of staying in Sarah and Clive's charming shepherd's hut and cabin is welcoming. We were lucky enough to visit during a hot spell of weather, but the hut would, I'm sure, be just as lovely and cosy at anytime. We had a great time visiting the handsome local towns and swimming in a local river, but couldn't wait to return to Cwch Bach each evening to simply sit with a cold glass of wine, take in the gorgeous views and watch the moon rise over this little bit of rural heaven. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

We absolutely loved our time at Cwch Bach and will be the first in line for a return visit. From the moment we arrived, the stress of city and touring life instantly fell away. How can you not relax upon being met by an honour guard of inquisitive ducks and friendly, curious cows?! The bathroom/kitchen cabin has everything that you need and more for cooking anything from a light breakfast to a full meal. It's pretty unheard of to have such an amazing and soothing shower when staying in a caravan but Cwch Bach had a better shower than 90% of the venues and hotels we have been in for the past 5 months. A short hop of a hare away from the cabin is a porthole to the best night's sleep I have had in years. The Shepherd's hut is an absolute dream. With the half door open and the gentle Welsh breeze upon on your face or totally closed and cosy, this is what life is about. The hut is so well insulated that there may be a chill in the air outside but you would not know it. I challenge anyone to not open your eyes in the morning, gaze out the windows at the beautiful scenery and not break out into a smile. I won't spoil it for you but Sarah and Clive leave extremely well thought out and welcoming little surprises for you when you arrive. They really are the ideal hosts, making you feel safe, secure and also as independent as you like. I cannot speak highly enough of them as hosts. The surrounding area is amazing for beautiful walks and exploring the ancient castles and homemade pies! We left fully recharged and in love with this corner of Wales. In short WE ARE COMING BACK and you should definitely go for yourselves but shhhhh, don't tell everyone, this is our own little slice of heaven, OK?

What a fabulous place to stay. So peaceful, such a beautiful valley. The Hutt is extremely comfortable, warm and cosy. Kitchen has everything you need and the shower is perfect. Plenty of seating areas to relax and read with a glass of wine. Sarah and Clive are perfect hosts and have thought of everything, we shall definitely be booking again to stay Thank you for sharing your fabulous Hutt and hopefully we’ll see you again soon.

Despite the wet weather after Christmas, this place was just the getaway we needed. Once the fog lifted the views of the North Wales hills and the wandering ducks was spectacular. The Shepherd's hut was marvellous - cosy, dry and quiet - we had a fire on one night only as it's so well insulated there really is no need! The well stocked camp kitchen and adjoining shower room offered another warm space to cook, eat and simply watch the world go by. This place really is magic, and it's not just the high quality of the accommodation, but also the kindness of the host, Sarah. She provided us with wonderful duck eggs, her own honey, home baked goods and more on arrival and we felt in safe hands throughout our stay with great communication if we needed something that we'd forgotten. We had privacy whilst at the same time we knew someone was nearby to help. The shepherd's hut is well stocked with blankets, games and books and we spent our days reading, drinking tea and staring out of the window. We hope to return in the summer months. Thankyou! - Jo

Wedi mwynhau penwythnos hyfryd yn y cwt bugail yng Nghwch Bach. Roedd y safle’n dawel a’r golyfeydd yn Dow’s ac roedd popeth wedi ei baratoi ar  ein cyfer. Roedd y croeso a ddangoswyd tuag atom yn cael ei werthfawrogi’n fawr- y wyau ffres, y cacennau blasus amser paned, y gwin, y cwrw, y llaeth yn y fridge a’r mêl i fynd adre efo ni. Roeddem yn edrych ymlaen at frecwast bob dydd i gael blasu’r jeli cyrens duon ar dost. Wedi mwynhau darllen y llyfrau. Aethom i Biler Rodney a Chastell Powys, ac wedi mwynhau ‘r tripiau hyn. Roedd hi’n fendigedig i gael y cyfle i ymlacio ac arafu mewn lle oedd yn berffaith. Gwennan G

We had a wonderful week at Cwch Bach - the hut and cabin are so well equipped and the setting is beautiful. The ducks are a delight (as are their eggs!) and there are plenty of places to visit from lakes and hills to castles and gardens. Very relaxing place that we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. Sarah and Clive were the perfect hosts too.

- Rachel C,

Cwch Bach is in the most beautiful setting in an area of Wales not so well trodden. However it was a fantastic find. The hut and cabin are wonderful -the hut is well insulated and warm (and that was without any heating on) and the views are spectacular. The cabin is well equipped and has everything you need. It's the quietest place we've ever stayed. The sky looked amazing with the the harvest moon on the first couple of nights and a sky full of stars later in the week. We loved Llanfyllin (some lovely buildings) and there are plenty of places to visit for amazing views and walks. Clive and Sarah were great hosts, friendly without being over bearing. I would highly recommend Cwch Bach for a relaxing break in a part of Wales you'll want to visit again. But sshh! don't tell everyone.

In some ways I don’t want to share this review! Because if I do, everyone will want to go!!!and then we won’t be able to book again because it’ll be full. This is a really lovely place to stay; the attention to detail in thinking about their guests and what would make a stay a memorable one was much appreciated. Sarah and Clive were there if needed but very discreet. Despite its size it fully caters for the needs of two people and provided an idyllic and peaceful spot to just “be”. We will be booking again but for longer next time, we didn’t want to leave, Thank you, it takes a lot of effort and hard work to make something like this special and we really appreciated it. Can’t recommend too highly!

This is an idyllic spot and the accommodation is fabulous. It’s the ideal place to unwind, and there is plenty to do in the surrounding area, which is breathtakingly picturesque. The hut is lovely, and the accompanying bathroom and kitchen area ensure that you have all mod cons and comforts during your stay. Sarah and Clive are super, and treated us to duck eggs and a few extra treats during our stay, which was so kind. The family of ducks in the field are hilarious, and march about in formation all day. They are totally entertaining. I could have watched them all day! I really can’t recommend this enough as a quiet, relaxing retreat from the usual hustle and bustle of busy life.

A delightful week staying in this quirky but totally luxurious shepherd's hut. The kitchen and bathroom were equally superb. We visited Lake Vernwy nearby but to be honest we were happiest sitting, reading and enjoying the privacy, peace and beauty of the valley in which the hut is situated. We will be returning when it's cool enough to light the wood burner! Highly recommended for a complete rural (but luxury) break from everything. This truly is a hidden gem.

- Michelle B,

If you are looking for a peaceful rural idyll, avoid those queues to get up Snowdon and come to this restful spot where there is plenty of time to "stand and stare" at the sheep and cows, watch the comical ducks and listen to the buzzing of the bees. We found the shepherd's hut surprisingly roomy. There is a spacious modern shower in the cabin and everything was spotlessly clean. Sarah & Clive provided just the right amount of helpful and thoughtful hospitality. Don't forget your torch and wellies (or waterproof shoes).

- Mary A,

We had a really lovely stay in this beautiful Shepherd's Hut in a peaceful valley with just the cows, sheep and ducks for company. Sarah was a perfect host, friendly and approachable and ready to help if needed. The lay out gave us lots of privacy and fantastic views but be prepared for a short walk to the loo from the hut! Lots to see and do in this less explored area of Wales, but we think the highlight of our holiday were probably the wonderful ducks and duck eggs!

- Karen C,

Lovely place...well made...tastefully decorated...very comfortable. A beautiful valley that gets sunshine all day. Spotless, and everything works perfectly; we had everything we needed; kitchen was particularly well equipped. Beautiful flowers on the patio and herbs to cook with for the picking. Our hosts were friendly and helpful whilst giving us space. Highly recommended. Oh and super cakes too!

We had such a lovely stay. Come rain or shine, Cwch Bach has something to offer. From the wonderful ducks waddling around, to the peace & tranquility of the setting. The shepherds hut is oh so cosy. Everything has been well thought out, with all you need for a relaxing break away.

- Jon W,

A delightful location, offering a gorgeous perspective of a tiny little portion of the world, punctuated by the cutest theatre of ducks, cattle, felines negotiating the flowerbeds & fields inches from one's bed. I could recommend Prosecco & local strawberries, but you know that's a perfect combination, right? Very relaxing from the moment of arrival, and considerate care from one's hosts - attentive & reactive, without being remotely intrusive. Can't wait to come back; hopefully not too long a wait for a gap in the booking calendar! Thank you!

- Andrew M,

What an incredibly relaxing week!!! Not only is Cwch Bach perfectly located for a slow week away from "life" but Sarah and Clive offer just the right amount of hospitality. Everything you could possibly think of is on hand, yet if you do need a little help they are more than happy to assist. Alternatively if what you require is complete solitude, you could be forgiven for thinking that Sarah and Clive don't reside nearby!! Cwch Bach is the finest balance of comfort a rustic charm that we have ever experienced. Cwch Bach - We'll be back!!

Newly finished to a high standard this fabulously secluded retreat has views of a beautiful valley, we will be visiting again. Great to sit on the bench watching the ducks going about their synchronised business. Mr & Mrs Gatehouse
