Priced for up to 2 staying, sleeps 8. We're very pleased to be the only cottage agency to represent Tŷ Trefaldwyn (The Old Post Office) in gorgeous Montgomery - beautifully restored by friend Gerry.
'As short-break destinations go, the pint-sized Powys town of Montgomery has it all; tempting shops, delicious places to eat, a ruined castle to explore and some of the scenic streets in Wales - and now visitors can stay at Ty Trefaldwyn!' BBC Homes & Antiques
A handsome, Listed Old Post Office with four bedrooms on one of the most idyllic town in Wales.
A few years ago we had the privilege of writing and co-presenting a number of TV series on the architectural history of Welsh towns, and would spend 30+ weeks of the year looking for, and filming, the best preserved and most beautiful urban scenes in the country. Trefaldwyn (Montgomery) was our favourite of all the places we filmed. It's the kind of place you visit once and promise to retire to, or move to, or to revisit again and again as it has such a perfect, gentle charm, that you can't believe you'd never heard of it, or that the place isn't thronging with tourists (it isn't).
Trefaldwyn is a tiny country town in the most glorious area, easily accessible to many wonderful days out - it's an area so unspoilt that it feels like there is no ugliness here at all. The people that live here care about their town, its cafes, craft and antique shops, and that things look good, are well conserved, and well cared for - the values that make Under the Thatch.
This is a beautiful conversion of an eighteenth-century commercial premises on the square, facing the town hall. The shop fenestration has been preserved, but with a clever and artistic glass etching to create privacy whilst maintaining a view out over the town. Like everything here, it has been well done.
Take steps from the door to good cafes and cake shops, to antiques and good pubs, or to the castle just above. Days out will take you to the best of the Welsh borders as you take the country lanes between Shropshire and Montgomeryshire.
