about the property

Sleeps 2. A gardener's delight! Romantic cottage near Oswestry.

The gatehouse at Llwyn y Maen enjoys one of the loveliest locations in the Welsh borders - set down a long private track in the beautiful grounds of one of Britain's best-regarded country house garden designers; it really is a special place. Having been in the same family hands since when it was built, this Welsh estate is technically now on the English side of the border and surrounded by bucolic parkland.

We're delighted to be sole agents, as this house reflects our values of authentic conservation, impeccable detailing and has gardens that we can but dream of for ourselves!

Guests who stay in this impeccably restored historic home enjoy access to the gardens and parkland, and there are excellent woodland and river walks on the estate. Just a mile or so takes you into historic Oswestry with its timber-framed buildings and many independent shops and cafes, this is some of the closest accommodation to Oswestry private school (only a mile distant). Explore places like NT Powis Castle, Pontcysllte aqueduct (World Heritage Site) or the many charming country towns and villages that straddle the border.

Wow! What a find. Beautifully restored bolt-hole for us to enjoy a thoroughly relaxing break. Stayed during the storm, and Tig ensured we were well stocked up and looked after. Great location, on a stunning estate, with the opportuintiy to unwind by the fire and recharge the batteries. Thank you!

We had the most wonderful birthday weekend at this beautifully furnished, very comfortable, stone gate house on an historic estate. We loved sitting by the fire, reading, with the rain pouring down outside. Well-equipped kitchen, underfloor heating and heated towel rails, luxurious throws and bed covers. The owners’ suggestion of visiting The Docks pub at nearby Sellatyn was great; there were locally-shot pheasanta hanging on the pub’s rear fence and so pheasant stroganoff it was!

A beautiful house and gardens, I shall return. The gatehouse is a joy to stay in. Thank you Tig, the architecture and garden scene are breathtaking. With my highest recommendation.

The Gatehouse at Llwyn y Maer is a delightful little place to stay for a comfortable and relaxing break. The gardens are beautiful and this area of the country, which is steeped in history, is full of places of interest to visit. It has been carefully restored and beautifully decorated and Tig and Simon go to great lengths to make you feel really welcome.

The Gatehouse was a wonderful place to stay. Set in gorgeous surroundings with huge fields for the dog to walk off the lead. The heating included a log fire and heated flooring in the kitchen. A great welcome pack and good material left to read. Definitely recommend it as a place to stay for a good night's sleep and plenty to do in the surrounding area

The Gatehouse at Llwyn y Maen is a little gem in the UTT portfolio. It was most interesting to hear how Simon and Tig have rebuilt and restored both the main house and the Gatehouse and the beautiful gardens so authentically and stylishly. The history of the estate is fascinating going back hundreds of years. We were enchanted! There is so much to do in the area if you can drag yourself away from the cosy little cottage! We would love to make a return visit. Thank you Tig a Simon for our sharing the Gatehouse and also for the wonderful hamper of goodies.
