about the property

Priced for 4, sleeps 6. Brecon Beacons contemporary barn near Hay-on-Wye and Abergavenny. Secluded, but not far from pubs, restaurants and shops. Great for a family holiday at Offa's Dyke.

Tŷ'r Olchon lies in one of the most beautiful rural locations in the UK, enjoying marvellous views of Offa's Dyke and Red Daren from the doorstep. The house was converted from an 18th-century barn into a spacious home, combining original oak beamed character with a comfortable, contemporary living style.

The house provides spacious accommodation for up to 6 guests. If you would like to book for up to 12 people you can book the estate, but note the annexes are never let independently if this main house is booked. Please see the Tŷ'r Olchon Estate listing here for more details.

Tŷ'r Olchon is perfect for walkers -  you have direct access to a network of public footpaths that lead to Black Hill, the Offa's Dyke footpath, and Hay Bluff.

The house provides both privacy and tranquillity, yet are only 5 minutes drive from the nearest village, with shop, pub and post office.

A lovely house in a beautiful setting, very well set-up for a family gathering. Large, warm, comfortable living room with adjacent extensive and practical kitchen and dining room. Easy access to hill and valley walks. Very good communications with host - available when needed.

Simply the most beautiful, restful and enjoyable week we have had for some time. The views are even better than the photographs and the house and cottage are so stylish yet homely. We wanted for nothing and relished every minute of our stay - the week passed all too quickly. From eating outdoors using the fast-cooking barbecue to playing Boules on the lawn outside-we have so many wonderful memories to cherish. There are simply loads of walks nearby. There are lots of board games and absolutely hundreds of books. Paula

If you want some peace and quiet this is a great venue. The peacefulness of the surroundings was very special...the sound of birds, the distant waterfall and the occasional gentle bleating of grazing sheep. A very simply and tastefully converted stone house it has all the comforts and conveniences of being inside while having great rustic charm and the experience of being in the outdoors. The dramatic rise to Offa's Dyke is visible from several of the windows. We enjoyed going down to the brook and waterfall at the bottom of the hill. Jonathan

Even better than it looks or sounds in the reviews! The location is idyllic a real escape with unbelievable views whichever way you turn. We had 8 of us staying with two dogs and the space was just perfect. The house is super cosy and really well decorated, the beds are unbelievably comfortable! Cosy fires and tonnes of board games, the perfect combination after long days of walking. We are already planning the next trip back. Bethany

We had a wonderful stay. The house is beautiful and spacious, everything was clean and the beds were comfortable. The house offers beautiful views of the valley - there are many walks in the area and a castle within less than 5 mins drive. The kitchen is well equipped and the lounge is cozy and comfortable with plenty of games for rainy days." Simona

This is a beautiful house in an absolutely stunning spot. There is a lovely distribution of space in the house allowing for several different areas to socialise, read or relax depending on the moment. The outside seating areas mean you can make the most of nice weather. All the rooms are really nice, the beds are very comfortable making for a good night's sleep. We loved the well kitted out kitchen which had everything we needed. Thank you very much. Lydia

The place has spectacular views, is peaceful and relaxing and the house and annexe have been beautifully done. There is a perfect amount of space for shared activities as well as spaces for people to have relaxed time alone. We absolutely loved our time away and are looking to book again as we didn’t want to leave. - Becky

The house is fantastic: authentic with a modern twist, spacious cottage annex, great outdoor terrace (with gas BBQ) , super convenient range cooker, lots of interesting books. The surroundings are breath taking...no words to describe it... Even when it's dark: never seen the milky way before... - Katrien

Excellent accomodation and amazing spot. Especially loved the large very private garden with spectacular views. Ate outside and used the BBQ most nights. We had three generations of family staying from age 12 to 85 and everyone had a great time. Beautiful area of the country to visit. Kids went swimming at the Warren in nearby Haye on Wye. Katie

Our second time here and loved it even more than last time. Just such an amazing place! Brilliant location, awesome place, super comfy and cosy and we were lucky enough with the Spring weather to eat outside and make use of the whole space. Great place for birders too, saw red kite and redstart and heard cuckoos from the garden. - Hollie

"Beautiful barn, cottage and location. Really nicely furnished property, with a striking modern steel staircase and wonderful wood-burner in the main living space. A great combination of rustic barn and modern comfort. Homely, functional and very well-equipped kitchen. We arrived in the dark and were aghast at the beauty of the surrounding valley when we woke. Stars at night were amazing in clear weather. Projector and quality speakers/surround sound for a cosy film night. We walked to the nearby castle, shop and pub in Longtown. We would love to return.” - Ben
