The gatehouse at Llwyn y Maen enjoys one of the loveliest locations in the Welsh borders - set down a long private track in the beautiful grounds of one of Britain's best-regarded country house garden designers; it really is a special place. Having been in the same family hands since when it was built, this Welsh estate is technically now on the English side of the border and surrounded by bucolic parkland. We're delighted to be sole agents, as this house reflects our values of authentic conservation, impeccable detailing and has gardens that we can but dream of for ourselves! Guests who stay in this impeccably restored historic home enjoy access to the gardens and parkland, and there are excellent woodland and river walks on the estate. Just a mile or so takes you into historic Oswestry with its timber-framed buildings and many independent shops and cafes, this is some of the closest accommodation to Oswestry private school (only a mile distant). Explore places like NT Powis Castle, Pontcysllte aqueduct (World Heritage Site) or the many charming country towns and villages that straddle the border.

We had a wonderful break, thank you Tig for your wealth of local knowledge and history. Felt very relaxed and comfortable, enjoyed the peace and quiet. The gardens are beautiful ( Yes, they are Tig!) and enjoyed breakfast, lunch and dinners outside.

My husband and I had a lovely stay at Llwyn y Maen. The gardens were wonderful and the gatehouse was comfortable. You are guaranteed a good night's sleep as the bed is extremely comfortable and the surrounding area very peaceful. The weather was a little too hot during our week long stay but being able to enjoy a nice chilled glass of wine in the garden each evening was a real pleasure!

My dog and I had a splendid short break at Llwyn y Maen, despite much rain! The house was amazing and luxurious , and Tig's hospitality was excellent and generous, with a sumptuous welcome basket, and welcoming lights and a lovely log fire waiting for us. Tig appeared immediately to give helpful advice and to offer assistance . We could not have been more welcomed and spoiled , and it was a delight to be in this wonderful house in the grounds of the splendid and awesome stately home , never offered for sale in a thousand years. Significantly of winter relevance , it was possible to back the car right to the door of the property, and there were good modern outside lights , so, had we wanted , it would not have been a problem to go out for supper on a dark winter night. Anyone hesitating to stay here in isolation in the winter need not therefore be concerned , as I will remember for later visits , which we hope to make. The gardens directly outside the cottage are quite wonderful, and , had it not been for the rain, we would undoubtedly have had some meals outside , winter or not. just a lovely short holiday..

Lovely, peaceful cottage in an idealic setting. We had such a relaxing time and found not having a t.v. very therapeutic. The cottage had everything needed for a perfect break, including a thoughtful welcome pack and the owner couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. A beautiful part of the country and perfect if you're looking to get away from it all.

Llwyn y Maen is a magical place in a beautiful garden setting. We were made very welcome by the owner who was happy to tell us all about the history, use and restoration of the main house, associated buildings and the estate. We arrived to find a hamper of delicious goodies which were much appreciated. The weather was kind for late September and we were able to make the most of sitting and eating in the garden. There is very good walking in this part of Wales. Oswestry Old Hill Fort is well worth a visit as is Pistyll Rhaeadr Waterfall and the impressive canal and railway era Aqueducts and Viaducts.
